Blog

On this page you can find my (long-ish) rants on the different TV series I watch and things that bother me—or not—about them. And my (long-ish) posts about fanfiction in general...writing them, reading them, choosing the material...and, most certainly, ranting about my muse taking unexpected and very long vacations.

When I first started this blog, I meant to publish only fanfiction, but as everything else, things evolve, and so has this blog. It's started with one little rant, spurred by a review I received for my fanfiction and the online community's inexplicable "rage" and hatred against a certain female character, so I had to chime in. Remember, though, that these are my opinions. Mea culpa, etc. You can always sound off in the comments section. POLITELY!

What went wrong with Veronica Mars ?

July 24, 2019 - I was among many who were happy when it was announced Veronica Mars was getting a revival, I was among many who were impatiently waiting for July 26, 2019, and I was among many who were pleasantly surprised when Hulu decided to drop the entire 8-episode season 4 a week early.
I watched it over the weekend, rather enjoyed it, then puzzled over the ending.
Then I re-watched it (complete with the ending, which I swore never to do), and realized something.

The biggest problem with Veronica Mars isn’t the heroine, the on-again-off-again relationship, the anger, the issues...The biggest problem with Veronica Mars is (and always has been)
the writing...read more

Writing blocks...and what causes them

August 17, 2018 - I finally discovered (some of) mine...It's a relief, really, finally knowing what is causing these some short, others decades-long, writing blocks. Recognizing them, maybe in the future, I can steer clear...read more

What Men Want - second take

July 17, 2018 - I'm feeling all nostalgic of late and have started re-reading City Hunter mangas, because I sure miss those two huge, lovable idiots (Ryo and Kaori, that is). I even started writing Homecoming as well...Only to end up blocked once more because I made such a mess of things. I like the next couple of chapters, though, so I'm not changing a word, I just have to wiggle myself out of the problem I created. Give me time.
And then, because I'm a nostalgic sap, I went and started reading everything I've ever written on the subject of
City Hunter. Some of the earlier works sure made me cringe (my writing style was appalling back then), but the stories made me laugh and cry and sigh...I felt everything I felt as I wrote them and everything I wanted the reader to feel.
I also cringed at the fact I left one of my longer fic unfinished for more than a decade. Why did I leave it like that when the ending was so nigh. All those years obviously offered a much needed perspective and the story and plot are so clear in my head right now, I cannot believe I left it stagnate so long.
I guess I just needed the right moment, the right push...Or the right amount of nostalgia.
The fanfic I'm talking about is What Men Want

NCIS and the end of "Tiva"

May 27, 2016 - I loved the energy Ziva brought to the team and I loved her chemistry with every single one of them, through the years they truly became one big (often dysfunctional) family. But most of all, I loved Ziva's chemistry with DiNozzo. There was that spark, that zing of something special in the making that made me sit back, relax and enjoy the ride....read more

Alone, and bored, on a Sunday afternoon

October 10, 2015 - I was channel-surfing and suddenly stumbled upon a "new" series on a Croatian TV channel.
Now, I usually skip Croatian TV channels, it's a peeve of mine, but I lingered, because it was in English (I overlooked the subtitles which always make me laugh), it looked historical (which I love), and it featured four cute guys speaking the Queen's English.
Historical, British, eye-candy...What more could a bored gal want on a Sunday afternoon? (It's a rhetorical question.) In the end, it turned out to be a BBC miniseries retelling the tale of
The Three Musketeers...read more

Muse isn't cooperating

June 24, 2015 - ...I'm a strange creature when it comes to writing. Or better, when it comes to choosing what to write at a certain moment. I can start something because I'm fed up with what the writers of a show are doing, it can be a visit to a country (Japan in the case of my first City Hunter fanfiction in years), it's my rooting for the underdog, a thought as to how a movie could've veered in a different direction...And sometimes is a glimpse of something new...
That's what happened now, and there are so many words and sentences now jumbling about in my brain, itching to get out.

Unfinished business (in terms of fanfiction)

June 21, 2015 - ...I have so many fics in different states of writing. Some of them on this site, some of them on my computer. And my muse has obviously taken a long vacation. I just can’t seem to find the inspiration and/or will to finish what I’ve started.
And the biggest problem of them all is, that I keep thinking of new stories to write, instead of finishing those that are being written.

I'm obviously not a shipper of all my fanfic couples / How Arrow turned into a (bad) fanfiction

May 2, 2015 - I always (except in shorter stories when it would quickly turn into PWP) have my main pairing mattress dance at least once in the story. It’s how I roll, I suppose. There has to be action, there has to be romance, and there has to be a sex scene. I love to mix and match. ;) But I guess I just can’t write “steamy” scenes if I don’t believe the guy deserves a girl...read more

The assassination of the "hero" in Arrow

March 9, 2014 - Gone is the Oliver Queen from season one. The man who was beating himself up day in, day out, over the past mistakes, determined to make amends for everything, determined to be more selfless, determined to make everybody who knew his past-self proud of what he'd become (that's a bit difficult since he's a vigilante, wearing a mask, and no one can know his identity, but still), determined to prove the woman he loved (apparently for half his life, or so he said—or the writers wrote in the script) that she was right all along in seeing the good in him.
The Oliver Queen from season one has been effectively terminated. The hero of the story is gone. Bye-bye, and thank you for watching

The on-screen chemistry in Arrow

November 14, 2013 - The chemistry is obviously in the eye of the beholder, because I see chemistry between Oliver and Laurel. It’s ‘subdued’ because it has to be. These two have a past, a past filled with heart-break, so I don’t expect them to sizzle and burn every time they look at each other. At least I don’t expect it from Laurel’s side. Let’s look at it this way. Here’s the man you obviously love, but who has broken your heart repeatedly, even slept with your sister. He’s a bastard (or he was). So tell me this, would you really go all ga-ga immediately after his return, give your heart immediately back to him, show him you love him, you’d do anything for him? I wouldn’t. Even if I saw he’s changed...read more
